pro-JESS-ter-own
A natural hormone that supports sleep, mood, and hormonal balance — especially important during perimenopause and menopause.
Also known as: Prometrium, Micronized Progesterone
FDA approved for: Secondary amenorrhea · Prevention of endometrial hyperplasia
Last reviewed: April 2026
Progesterone is one of the two main female hormones (along with estrogen). It calms the nervous system, supports deep sleep, protects the uterine lining, and helps balance estrogen's effects. During perimenopause, progesterone drops faster than estrogen, causing many of the symptoms women experience.
