D-S-I-P
A naturally occurring brain peptide that promotes deep delta-wave sleep — the most restorative phase of the sleep cycle.
Also known as: Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide
Last reviewed: April 2026
DSIP was discovered in 1977 in the blood of rabbits during deep sleep. It promotes delta-wave sleep — the deepest, most restorative sleep phase associated with growth hormone release, tissue repair, and memory consolidation. Unlike sedatives, it works with your natural sleep architecture.

DSIP promotes deep sleep specifically. Melatonin signals sleep timing. Progesterone enhances sleep via GABA. Different mechanisms that could theoretically complement.
Melatonin
The hormone your brain makes when it gets dark — supplementing it helps reset your sleep-wake cycle.
Progesterone
A natural hormone that supports sleep, mood, and hormonal balance — especially important during perimenopause and menopause.
