Evidence Summary
How It Works
Gonadorelin is a synthetic decapeptide identical to endogenous GnRH. Pulsatile administration stimulates the anterior pituitary to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), maintaining the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. It is commonly used alongside testosterone replacement therapy to preserve testicular function, spermatogenesis, and intratesticular testosterone levels that exogenous testosterone alone would suppress.
Common Applications
Safety & Considerations
Well tolerated at standard doses. Side effects may include headache, nausea, light-headedness, and injection-site irritation. Continuous (non-pulsatile) administration paradoxically suppresses gonadotropins. Not appropriate for patients with pituitary tumors or hormone-sensitive cancers without specialist oversight.
